Awakening
Launch day never comes β the sync port kills before the keynote.

Hours before the keynote, CEO Nick collapses in his executive suite: his neural sync port destroyed, his reinforced heart stopped. Four authorized visitors were inside the campus overnight β an engineer, a campaign model, a forest ranger, and a man whose press credentials don't quite scan.
You are here to reconstruct one chain of facts: who could reach Nick's private neural interface before launch, how the feedback surge was triggered, and what secret protocol made a killing feel necessary. Line up the scorched sync port, the heart failure, and the pre-launch timeline until only one story holds.
The setting
September 1, 3018. The K-tek spire rises over the fogged cedar slopes of a Pacific Northwest arcology, selling the dream that human and synthetic nerves can finally rhyme. Today is the global launch of Awakening β and protesters ring the campus.
What you'll do
- Interrogate four AI suspects across a near-future corporate campus
- Search the executive suite, the lab wing, the forest checkpoint log, and the press hall
- Read sync-port telemetry, overnight maintenance logs, and a spoofed-credential trail
- Separate a technical accident from deliberate sabotage
The suspects
Raised in the arcology's lower tiers, now the sleepless miracle engineer behind Awakening's calibration stack β the code Nick trusted enough to wire into his own body.
The face on every banner this week β "empathy without distance." Discovered by Nick himself, present at every launch decision, and lately changed in ways her colleagues can't name.
Not corporate and not pretending to be. He knows every blind spot on the wet pine slopes around the spire, and he stopped believing the tower's slogans long ago.
Nobody at K-tek can quite place him. His press credential scans as valid until someone looks twice, and he moves through the campus like a man who studied it.
Crime scenes you can search
Nick lies beside the diagnostic sync chair, the neck port scorched in a radial burn. Chair telemetry logs a feedback spike; an unfinished protocol draft sits on the desk.
Awakening calibration terminals line the room. A 1:15 AM log shows a maintenance account editing Nick's personal sync profile.
A perimeter station on the wet service road, where a gray sedan with spoofed press credentials was logged at 4:12 AM.
The keynote stage, set for Awakening. Rehearsal markers, a mic-check timestamp, and a locker holding a wiped encryption kit.
