You are a prospective buyer touring a villa priced suspiciously low. The owner, Thomas Hale, greets you with a rehearsed line: everyone in his family has passed, and he simply wants to sell. But the floor plan is short by twenty-two square feet, the diaries left on the property contradict one another, and a child's crayon drawing shows a murder nobody will explain.

Push on the walls. Crawl the hidden passages. Press the people who plainly know more than they admit. This house was built to conceal something, and the truth of the Hale family is far darker than the listing suggests.

The setting

Remote New England, around 1983. A forty-foot-square villa on cheap land with a hand-painted "motivated sale" sign at the gate. The owner cannot read, says his whole family is dead, and only wants the place gone. The house has other ideas.

What you'll do

The suspects

Thomas Hale β€” Owner
Earnest, illiterate, and alone. He insists his whole family is dead and just wants a kind buyer for the house.
Lily Hale β€” Mute Aunt
Communicates only in gestures and written notes. She kept the household running for decades β€” and kept its secrets.
Reed Cassidy β€” Carpenter
Hired in the late 1970s to renovate the villa. He built things he was paid handsomely never to discuss.
Claire Marsh β€” Real-Estate Agent
Listing the house far below market value. She has researched the family and is deeply uneasy about the sale.

Crime scenes you can search

The Entry Hall
A motivated-sale sign, a floor plan that refuses to add up, and a torn wedding photo with the bride's face ripped away.
The Nursery
A ground-floor nursery set strangely far from the home's only bathroom β€” a choice no new parent would make.
The Attic
No door to the outside, yet the family always blamed the night-time noises on mice.

Frequently asked questions

How many players is this case for?

The Womb House is built for one detective in a single browser tab. Progress saves locally per case, so you can pause and return. You interrogate suspects and search the villa in plain language; friends may join on voice chat while one person drives the keyboard.

How long does this case take?

Most players finish in about 90 minutes. Missing square footage, secret passages, and forged records mean extra room searches and cross-checking diary entries. Players who map the villa thoroughly before accusing often need more time; a confident reader of architectural clues can sometimes finish sooner.

What is the difficulty?

Expert. You are tracking hidden floor area, mechanical passages, swapped identities across generations, and which diary entries were written to mislead. The killer is reachable, but only if you connect the house itself to the family tree β€” surface alibis are designed to waste time.
