Two Ways to Play: Single Player & Multiplayer
Missing Witness gives you two modes in your browser. In Single Player mode, you are the outside detective investigating authored murder cases by questioning AI suspects, searching locations, and submitting a closing theory scored by an AI judge. In Multiplayer mode (/multiplayer), 2 to 6 friends join a room via an invite link, each claims a suspect role card (one seat is the killer), AI automatically fills any empty seats, and the table progresses through statements, open discussion, and a final vote.
Step 1 — Case File & Opening (Single Player)
Each solo case opens with a synopsis, Case File summary, and Your Goal: victim, setting, and suspects in broad strokes — no spoilers. Press Start the Game to hear opening statements from every suspect. Note contradictions immediately: who sounds rehearsed, who changes details, who refuses a straight answer.
Step 2 — Interrogate in Group or Direct
Type questions in the group channel to address everyone, or tap a portrait to @mention one suspect. Group chat mimics a crowded drawing room — not everyone may reply. Directed questions force a single character to answer, like pulling someone aside at a live mystery party. There is no hidden button path; language is the interface.
Step 3 — Search & Organize
Under Investigation, click unscouted rooms. Physical clues from each scene are added straight to your Case Notes. Use Update notes to merge testimony with evidence into a chronological timeline. Strong players reread the evidence in their notes after learning a new name or time — real detectives do not treat first impressions as final.
Step 4 — Submit Your Theory (or Vote in Multiplayer)
In Single Player, write a complete accusation covering the killer, time, place, method, motive, and why other suspects can be ruled out. The AI judge applies a weighted rubric out of 100 and reveals the official story at 60+. In Multiplayer rooms, submit your Final Words and vote for the killer on the ballot to see whether the innocents or the culprit win.
Accounts, Free Access & Saves
In Single Player mode, The Womb House is free to play from start to finish with no account required; other solo cases unlock with a monthly or lifetime plan, and progress saves locally in your browser. In Multiplayer mode, only the host needs to sign in and unlock the case — invited friends join the room for free with just a nickname.
